Organic Cat Food

Organic Cat Food Guide Category

Organic pet foods are often made from whole ingredients as well, but they also have to adhere to strict requirements about how the ingredients are raised or grown.

Organic cat foods are produced without the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones, toxic pesticides or fertilizers. They are minimally processed, not irradiated and do not contain any chemical additives or preservatives. Instead of using chemicals, organic cat foods are produced with more natural, biological methods like using mulch to prevent weed growth or compost instead of manufactured fertilizer.

How do you know if the organic cat food you’re buying really is organic? Luckily this part is pretty easy for the consumer. Only products that have been certified organic by an independent, third-party agency can be labeled as organic. The USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) provides very specific labeling and manufacturing requirements.

A healthy feline diet is the foundation for your kitty’s health. Feeding your cat a good quality natural cat food, or better yet organic cat food, you can help avoid a lot of common cat health problems by keeping her immune system strong. Organic cat food companies, like Newman’s Own, usually have stricter standards so they generally have better quality foods, but read the label to be sure.

Part of that healthy feline diet includes getting enough water. Cats have a low thirst drive because they were meant to get some of their liquids through their diet. A cat on a dry food only diet may have more cat health problems, like feline urinary tract infections which can be extremely serious.

You may be able to get your cat to drink more regularly by keeping water in different rooms of your home so it’s always handy. Also try using different containers to see what they prefer.
