A Healthy Feline Diet
by Cheryl
The more I research natural cat food and general cat health the more I realize how vital a healthy feline diet is, but how little it’s marketed or talked about. I guess it’s not too surprising because when you look at what’s heavily marketed to people it’s a large amount of junk food.
A healthy feline diet is the foundation for your kitty’s health. Feeding your cat a good quality natural cat food, or better yet organic cat food, you can help avoid a lot of common cat health problems by keeping her immune system strong. Organic cat food companies, like Newman’s Own, usually have stricter standards so they generally have better quality foods, but read the label to be sure.
Part of that healthy feline diet includes getting enough water. Cats have a low thirst drive because they were meant to get some of their liquids through their diet. A cat on a dry food only diet may have more cat health problems, like feline urinary tract infections which can be extremely serious.
You may be able to get your cat to drink more regularly by keeping water in different rooms of your home so it’s always handy. Also try using different containers to see what they prefer.
Our cats actually let us know they wanted more water by constantly trying to drink out of our glasses when we were sitting in the living room. So we bought them their own water glass. They use it all the time – much more than they ever use the one by their food bowl. Plus we’re able to watch them more regularly so we know their normal habits and can tell if something isn’t quite right.
